The Kracken - Redux

We awoke this morning to another beautiful day in Anacortes.  Just so you know, the first time we toured our boat it was a gorgeous day in early October.  The broker was wearing shorts!  But the subsequent three visits it was blowing, raining, blowing AND raining.  It's so nice to be here and working in T shirts!  This morning while we drank our coffee and chewed (and chewed) our muesli and granola we were treated to the sounds of the Saturday Farmers Market being set up next door to the old train station which is right behind our 5th wheel.
Right on the other side of those pretty madrone trees.
So after breakfast we walked over and checked it out.  It's probably close to, maybe a little smaller, than Medford's Grower's Market.  There was lots of diversity - everything from fresh produce to T-shirts.  You could easily put together a great meal between the homemade pasta, fresh veggies & herbs, fresh seafood, and fresh baked bread.  And the live music was actually GOOD.  And of course the ever present knife sharpener.  We made the rounds but bought nothing because we have no business buying food right now.  We have to get the job done. And while we do, others will feed us.

Today was spent reconstructing The Kraken.  But this is the Good Kraken.  Not to be confused with the monster we just banished.  Remember Glinda, the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz?  She was the witch from the north.  Then there was the Wicked Witch of the West.  I like to think that since I'm a Northwest woman I'm wickedly good.

But I digress...

Today we rebuilt The Good Kraken.  More knuckles were skinned.  More ribs were bruised.  And, just like in all good thriller flicks, just when you think all the bad ooze is gone and you can breathe easy - there's more ooze.  And of course no good horror flick is complete unless the beast grabs the heroine one last time.
Don't worry that was fresh hose.

However, I'm happy to report that we believe all toxic matter is now either disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner, or at least contained.  We think it's all gone.  However we may see if we can find a priest to wave over it to be sure.  If ever there was a time to be faithful, this is it.  We have one more hose to fit and some zip ties to keep things in place and the job will be done.  Here's some pics of the new system

Oh yeah, guess we better reconnect the wiring.
Still has a sinister hiding thing going, but we know where it's going.
It's not getting away with anything anymore!

There's of course the clean up next.  The good news is I've gotten rid of all of the damn lavender.  The previous owners had bunches of dried lavender hanging in all of these back spaces where the hoses ran.  Really?  I'm sorry but that's like sorcery.  I never really believed you could drive off vampires with garlic and I know you can't vanquish a Kraken with lavender.

Speaking of clean up
you can see here why we can't move aboard until this job is done. All of this is because of The Kraken.
Simon is understandably disturbed.
However he was redeemed later with a good ear rub, per Dory's instructions.

As usual we had a perfect happy hour dinner at Anthony's.  And again we visited with interesting folks at the bar.  This couple just sold their home in Gardiner, NV and are looking for a place close to Anacortes.  He retired in '91 from being a wine chemist, but was wondering what the difference was between pinot grigio and pinot gris.  Anyway they were a hoot.

It's all of 6:48 and we've taken our Advil and are ready to get in our jammies.  Tomorrow we think we can actually finish the Kraken and MAKE THE BED!

Thanks for all the encouragement and the kind comments about the blog.  It's nice to know someone is listening out there!  We miss you all.

And a special big fat CONGRATULATIONS to Mel & Jim who have sold their home within 48 hours of listing it!  Woohoo!  Welcome to the Houseless Club! You're in questionable - yet fun - company.

  1. An exorcism, a few prayers, and perhaps three Navaho sings may be in order. I hope everything comes out OK from now on.
