This picture doesn't do justice to the sacrifice of skin Dave has made.
Yeah - see just above his watch...that's a major bruise/laceration/owie.
And to think I thought I would do this nasty project while Dave was fiddling with outside stuff. Ha! I'd be buried in Davey Jones' locker if I'd tried to do this myself. At the very least I'd be huddled in a corner weeping. I have huge thanks and admiration for Captain Dave for all he did to conquer the Kraken.
So our weather changed. This was the scene from the window of Booner this morning
Granted it was taken at 6 am.
But the temperatures have been good. We kept the boat open the whole time we were working aboard and never felt cool. Simon tends to be a little melodramatic about having to dry out between walks
Nothing new here.
Here's something new. The best fish-n-chips in Anacortes, SIXTEEN YEARS RUNNING, is at San Juan Lanes. Yes, the bowling alley. We finally got around to checking it out today.
It was good.
Do I need to go back and do it on a regular basis? Not so much. However the coleslaw was also good. Celery seed was a nice addition.
Speaking of seafood, we found this when we returned to the boat last week
Yep that's a crab leg right next to our companionway hatch (front door).
Apparently some crab-eating creature, probably airborne, decided to leave their lunch trash on our boat.
Kind of like coming back home to find a McDonalds bag in your driveway. Well...maybe a bit more charming. At least they didn't poop there too.
On a sailboat your "patio" area is called the cockpit. It's where you hang out to "drive" the boat, but also where you hang out and entertain. We had a bimini on our last boat, which is an awning to shad the area. This boat doesn't have that - yet. But we did find an Eddie Bauer Umbrella Shelter in the lazarette which is way cool
This will definitely help us get through the first season of making minimal additions.
Of course you have to be careful not to put an eye out. But how is that different from everyday everywhere?
And tonight we saw these signs in the marina parking lot
This is exciting.
Why?
Because tomorrow is set up for
TRAWLER FEST!
Yes, one of Anacortes' biggest events is next week. Trawler Fest is a boat show dedicated to trawlers. Trawlers are a type of cruising boat fashioned after fishing trawlers only with great living accommodations. They are power boats, often sporting dual diesel engines. We're really looking forward to scoping out some cool boats that we'll never own. Mind you when we walk from our dock to the marina office (well usually we're on our way to Happy Hour at Anthony's) we walk past a long dock filled with tugboats. Not working tugboats, but recreational tugboats. I'm sure I'll write about them soon. There's a boat for everyone who wants to be on the water for sure.
I hope all you moms had a GREAT Mothers Day today. Simon made me a present, but I didn't take a picture of it. We threw it away in fact.
Love you all!

Love reading all your stories, definiately looked like a two person job.
ReplyDeleteSo is Kraken a brand name or did you name you project this? I searched the internet and here's what wikipedia says...maybe you have your very own MONSTER http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraken. Keep the stories coming. xoxo to you, Dave and Simon.
